JAMONT SIMMONS Obituary

JAMONT T. SIMMONS, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017. He was born on April 8, 1987. He accepted Christ at Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his grandfather, the late Pastor James Fincher Sr. While there, he began his musical pursuits and ultimately mastered a variety of instruments and vocals. In 2005, he graduated from South Side High School where he excelled in academics and as a percussionist received many talented awards in the Arts Program. During his high school career, he was an accomplished quarterback for the team. Jamont also known as "God's Drummer" played at a variety of churches and charitable events. He continued to use his God given talents while performing with several local bands. Jamont was the featured drummer on the newly CD, Funk Band for the Common Man by the Fort Wayne Funk Orchestra. He leaves to cherish in his memory his aunt, Marcia Simmons; father, James Fincher Jr.; two sons, Jedaiah and Jeziah; three daughters, Nala, Niara and Jaidence; grandmother, Dorothy Fincher; brothers, Cinchez and Jermaine; sister, Shalonda; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Marla Simmons; grandparents, James E. and Alice M. Simmons; and uncles, James and Larry Simmons. Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at New Covenant Worship Center, 3420 E. Paulding Road, with visitation two hours prior. Visitation also from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at the church. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home. www.ellisfh.com

There is no sadness that Jesus can not feel, no hurt that Jesus can not heal, for all things work according to HIS master plan; no matter what you're going through..THIS BATTLE IS NOT YOURS, IT'S THE LORDS!! Marcia, you were an amazing aunt/mom. You kept me laughing with stories of you and Jamont. HE KNEW YOU LOVED AND CARED FOR HIM. Know that my family will always be here for you, as you were there for me during my illness. LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!!!

To The Simmons and Fincher Families: We were sad to hear of Jamont's, passing.....He lived a life, that included his singing, and playing several instruments, because what many didn't know or understand, GOD Had A Calling on Jamont's life.....What many of us fail to understand is that before Jamont, even took his 1st breath, GOD, had already predestined his time of life, and his demise, as he has with us ALL......Jamont's work here on earth was done, GOD, told Jamont, "My Good and Faithful Servant" You have

Your gift, your musicianship, your legacy will forever live on! I had the opportunity to know you from GPBC, FWCC, and A2W. What a beast you were. And in your 29 years here you have definitely made your mark as a legend in Fort Wayne's music world. What a gift. What a life. Gone too soon. My sympathy and condolences going out to the families of Jamont T. Simmons for the loss of their loved one. I didn't know him but I did know Larry and James who passed earlier and also the Fincher family. May he rest well in peace and in Heaven and may the LORD bless the families with healing, GOD bless.......!!

Fincher/Simmons family, Jamont was a sweet and gifted young man. And he was such a delight and a blessing to all who knew him. He has touched so many lives and have made many proud of him. I will truly miss seeing him from time to time. But it was an honor to have known him. God will give you strength to get through these times of sorrow. Trust and believe on Him.
