JEAN SPRINGER Obituary

JEAN SHOCKEY SPRINGER, 87, died on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at his home in Naples, Fla. Born in Fort Wayne, Ind. on June 30, 1930, he was the son of the late Edward and Mildred Springer. Jean was the owner of Springer Jewelers until 1991, when he sold the business to his sons Peter and David. His passion was golf and two of his most memorable accomplishments were shooting a 68 when he was 68 years old, and making his first five holes-in-one at Fort Wayne Country Club, on five different Par-3's, and having an article written in Golf World Magazine noting this rare accomplishment. He won the Fort Wayne Senior City golf tournament three different times in his age group. Jean served in Korea for 14 months before returning home to begin his career in the family jewelry business. Jean attended Bradley University and completed the watchmaking and jewelry store management degrees. He was also a charter member and former president of the Sertoma Club of Fort Wayne, as well as serving on the greens committees of Fort Wayne Country Club and also Imperial Golf Club in Naples Fla. Jean is survived by his sons, Peter (Cindy) of Fort Wayne, Tim of Dublin, Ohio, David (Peg) of Fort Wayne; daughters, Anne Coffee of Wilmington, N.C., Ellen Hardy (Brian) of Indian Head Park, Ill., and sister, Phyllis (Dale) Lentz of Bonita Springs, Fla. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, including Ben and Erin Springer; Megan Lottes, Kevin, Stephen and Maggie Springer; Brad Springer and Katelyn McCarty; Michael, Molly and Sarah Coffee; Patrick and Cooper Hardy; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Evan Lottes; and Addison Springer; and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sally, in August of 2016. Private Services at a later date. Divine Mercy Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements. My deepest sympathies to the Springer family and friends. In the mid 80's I mowed the family residential lawn on W. Taylor St. At that time Mr. Springer was working on a restoration of a Corvette. I had his son Tim in drafting class at Elmhurst High School. My prayers go out to the Springer family and may he rest in peace and God Bless. Jim Lambert

Jean was such a wonderful man and will be missed by all that knew him. He had such a great attitude and fun to be around. FWCC and Imperial Golf Club will not be the same without him. Your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

We want the whole family to know that Jean and Sally were such special friends to us. They welcomed us to their home many times, and we loved spending time with them. They were our sponsors when we decided to join Imperial Golf Club in Naples! It is difficult to lose good friends, and we will truly miss Jean! So Sorry, that you have to lose him. Our prayers of loving memories to your family.
