Richard A. Drewes

Richard A. "Dick" Drewes, 90, of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2024, in Fort Wayne,

Indiana. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 28, 1933, to the late Alvin and Esther (Gerken)

Drewes.

Richard served in the Army for 2 years before going to work at Dana Corporation in 1957. He started his career on the drafting board, retiring as Chief Engineer of the International Axle Division in 1999. His job took him to South America, India, Korea, Thailand and Europe. In 1978, he transferred to Janesville, Wisconsin and then to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1980. He lived with his wife, Sue, in Fort Wayne until they built their current home on Snow Lake in Fremont, Indiana. He volunteered in leadership roles at the churches they attended. After retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity on the board in Steuben County for 11 years.

Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Suzanne and his brother Roger. He is survived by his children Denise Stilwell (Greg), Doug (Peg) and Cheryl Mawhinney (Mike), grandchildren Jackie Gillenkirk (Mike), Jeremy Lamb (Becca), Aaron Lamb (Brittany), Mike Mawhinney (Sharee), Nicole

Sparks (Manny), David, Mary Groves (Cody), Nicholas, Shannon Dahlman (Brad) and Nathan (Kaitlyn), 16 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Mckenzie, Aiden, Clay, Raleigh, Riley, Mason, Jaden, Christopher, Anna, Lily, Addy, Freyja, Fie, Bryson, Elias and James (due in August) and 1 great-great-grandchild, Avery. A Celebration of Life will be held in early fall. Donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana, or Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity. Arrangements in care of H.E.
