Sadly I actually did not know Ron, I had heard his name here and there but knew nothing about him. I was walking at PFW the other day and saw his name on a dedication stone by the bridge. I thought this must be a person who was unique and generous in this community. As I looked up his name later I was in awe of the life he lead and the generosity to the arts including the Philharmonic of which I am a part. What a monumental part of the community he was....I send my very late condolences to the family. I am sorry I never had the pleasure to meet Ron but will always be reminded of him through all the good he did in Ft Wayne.

MRS. JOAN VENDERLY AND FAMILY:
PLEASE ACCEPT OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE LOSS OF YOUR LOVED ONE, DR. RONALD E. VENDERLY.
I FIRST MET LT. RONALD E. VENDERLY, PMS&T, AT CONCORDIA LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL, IN SEPTEMBER 1953, WHEN HE BECAME THE NEW COMMANDER OF THE JUNIOR ROTC PROGRAM. OUR PATHS CROSSED AGAIN, IN JUNE 1957, WHEN I JOINED THE U.S. ARMY, INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD, 293RD INFANTRY DIVISION, AND NOW HIS RANK WAS CAPT. RONALD E. VENDERLY. IN 1976, OUR PATHS CROSSED WHEN I BECAME A STOCKBROKER, IN FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, WHERE RON AND I HAD SOME OF THE SAME CLIENTS AS INVESTORS. THE YEARS PASSED, AND WE SAW EACH OTHER PERIODICALLY, AND NOW I HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING WITH, DR. RONALD E. VENDERLY.
DR. RONALD E. VENDERLY, WILL LONG BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS PHILANTHROPIC ENDEAVORS, AND FOR ALL THE LIVES HE TOUCHED WITH HIS GENEROSITY.
GOD'S BLESSINGS TO THE FAMILY OF DR. RONALD E. VENDERLY.
SINCERELY,
MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS

I have very fond memories of spending time over the lunch hour with Mr. Venderly and other leading local businessmen. He was always the most interesting, vocal, opinionated and engaging person at the round table, as well as thoughtful and intelligent. What I remember most is how he spoke of his family -- with complete love and affection. My prayers go out from the bottom of my heart to your family. I am sorry for your loss, and I know he will be sorely missed.

I met Ron at Merrill Lynch when I was a temp there more years ago than I care to remember. He was almost always cheery, had an infectious laugh and was very nice to me when I was learning. He always offered to help. Sorry to hear of his passing. Saw him and Joan not too long ago at Rich's Cafe. Prayers to his family.

I always respected "Captain Venderly" as a firm military leader of the ROTC at Concordia High School while I was there from 1957-1961. He had a love for his students and wanted the best military training for us. As a result of knowing him I developed a strong interest in our military history and greater appreciation for all those who have served our nation and defended our freedoms, especially the freedom of religion. I salute Colonel Venderly for his varied work among us. He has now joined Jesus Christ, the Captain of the hosts in heaven.

Oh Leslie. I spent a lot of Coney Island coffees with your and my dad. I loved your dad! Such a special man. I just saw him at my fathers memorial-was looking forward to having a lunch with him sometime. I'm so sad to hear this! Hope our dads are having a great coffee conversation together up there. My best to you and your family.

Leslie, Joan and the family,
My thoughts are with you in your loss. Ron was a good husband, father, and member of the community. His loss can't be taken away from you, neither can the good memories of the times all of you shared. Remember those good times, the joy shared by all of you. Those are the important memories.

My Memory of Mr. Venderly is mostly how much he meant to my husband Ken Ramming(who died in 2004). He looked up to him as his Commander in the ROTC and as his football coach at Concordia Lutheran High School. May the peace of the Lord be with all of his family. With love, Mary Ann Ramming

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Mr Venderly you will be greatly missed. Your generosity impacted many people along your path. I was fortunate enough to have been helped through college by your generosity and can never express the gratitude I have for your help. Heaven has called home a great man.

It is usually about this time of the year when Ron and I would have lunch together at Hall's Triangle Park. It was an annual meeting to talk about his favorite programs on PBS39 and what he wished he could see more of. He loved the arts. I was expecting a call from him any day to get together for our annual lunch together.
He always had stories of his various exploits and accomplishments. The stories made me laugh and smile. He loved to talk about his "women" (Joan and the Girls). I will miss Ron.

We were so blessed to spend a lot of time with Ron this past winter at IPFW Athletics events. Since he and Joan did not travel south, Ron came to almost every basketball game and some men's volleyball matches too. He always told us not to "fuss over him" and joked with our students and staff working the game. They all quickly learned that behind the bark was a fun-loving sports fan unafraid to brave winter weather to support our student-athletes and coaches.
Ron relentlessly teased me and I think he got a kick out of making me blush! I hope he knows how much it meant to me when, after a long day, he told me, "you're doing a good job kiddo!" I have a tough job and don't hear that very often and I sensed he knew it.
We are saddened by the loss of a member of the Mastodon Family and will miss Ron's unique sense of humor and generous spirit. Please know his legacy will live on as he touched the lives of so many including his scholarship student-athletes, coaches and administrators. Thank you Mr. Venderly and please continue to cheer for us.
