SUZANNE ADEN Obituary

SUZANNE MARIE ADEN, 51, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. Born in Fulton, Mo., on Feb. 28, 1965, she was later adopted by the Carr family. Adopted again at the age of 10, sometime after the deaths of the Carr's, Suzanne came to live in the home of the Rev. Otha and Sylvia Aden, and was led to the Lord as her personal savior by Sylvia Aden. She was a longtime member of Southern Heights Baptist Church, and thereafter, a member of Fellowship Missionary Church. A skilled speech and hearing pathologist, Suzanne studied at Purdue University - West Lafayette, attaining a Bachelor's of Science degree, before matriculating to the Historically Black Hampton University, where she earned a Master's of Arts Degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders in 1991. Diagnosed with cancer some 15 years ago, she fought back, and went into remission, until about four years ago. "Her amazing spirit, characteristic great attitude, and ability to find hilarious humor in everything -- even her condition -- kept us laughing through it all." An employee of multiple nursing homes and East Allen County Schools, she worked in several schools - most recently Southwick Elementary, where she was named the "2014 - 2015 Teacher of the Year". With her profound love of children, whose get well cards adorned her bulletin board next to her bed, Suzanne was a tireless specialist helping young people to speak and hear more effectively. Her work touched the lives of many children. She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Joy Aden; father, Otha; two younger brothers, Jonathan and Timothy; younger sister, Joy; sister-in-law, Sherry; a host of nephews, Malik, Eric, Sean, and Damon; niece Paikea; and one great-nephew, Camden. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Aden in April of 2016. A Wake is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Fellowship Missionary Church, 2536 E. Tillman Road. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Fellowship Missionary Church, with a repast to follow. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Southern Heights Baptist Church, 4001 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, with viewing from 10 to 11 a.m.. Burial immediately to follow at Covington Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Carmichael Funeral Service.

Dear Pastor Aden, Vanessa, and the entire Aden family. I am so sorry about the loss of Sue. I had the pleasure of spending time with Sue during her stay in Houston. I will cherish the visits and phone conversations we had about her battle. During these conversations, she never complained, was never angry, and always had the same beautiful smile and laughter, especially when she spoke of Vanessa. Sue was one of the kindest, and most courageous Christians I have ever met. I learned so much from the short time I spent with her, and I thank God for this experience. RIH Sue

Oh, Pastor Aden, my dear friend! I am SO sorrowful for you. You've had to say goodbye to your beloved wife and now your dear daughter all in the same year! I wish I had words to share that would ease the pain. I know you have a solid faith in our Heavenly Father, The Almighty God, creator of the earth and the universe surrounding it. I guess the best I can offer right now is to tell you how I am praying--that is, that the all-sufficient grace of God, something we KNOW it is, will SEEM sufficient to you in these troubling times you're going through. Please call me for ANYthing you need, even if it just to talk. I have good ears, praise our Lord! Mary sends her greetings as well!

To our neighbors and friends, Sue was such a great and happy person. Always stopping to say hi and chat for a few moments when out for a walk. We will miss her and pray Vanessa and the family can find comfort in their joyful memories of Sue. God bless you all and may she rest in the peace of her mother's arms.

Pastor Aden, John, Tim, Joy, and Vanessa, I am one of many friends who was so blessed to have Sue in their lives. As roommates at Hampton University we were there for each other every step of the way during a rigorous program. But Sue's ready optimism always got us the extra mile. I will miss her, but no where as much as you all. My heartfelt wish is peace and understanding for Vanessa. I never met her, but Sue talked about her with such pride, love and affection that she is not a stranger to me. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Much love. My deepest sympathy in the death of Suzanne. I worked with her until my retirement in 2013. She was simply an uplifting and warm person to have around.
I know how she loved her daughter. May the Dear Lord watch over her in this time of sadness.
