William Dirig Obituary

William Thomas "Tom" Dirig, 80, passed away on August 21, 2024, Tom was born in Ft. Wayne and attended St. Andrews Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1961. He worked 33 years for the street department of NIPSCO, retiring in 1999. Tom was an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and loved his family. He is survived by his son Scott Dirig; brother, Tim (Janet) Dirig; sisters, JoAnn (Terry) Harding and Tammy Gfell; grandchildren, Elizabeth "Grace" Dirig, Erin (Haley) Dirig, Carter Dirig and Ryan " Murphy" Dirig. Tom was preceeded in death by his wife Teresa Dirig; parents, William and Helen Dirig and brother-in-law Richard Gfell. Funeral service will be 2 PM Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, Ft. Wayne. Calling will be 11 AM till 2 PM the same day at the funeral home. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Ft. Wayne. Preferred memorials may be made to St. Mary's Soup Kitchen. Online condolences can be left at www.divinemercyfuneralhome.com.

Tom was on the crew that Iwas on when I worked my first day at Nipsco. He was kind to me that day, which was very helpful to a 19 year old kid who didn´t know anything. He was a very nice guy and I always liked working with him. My condolences to his family and friends. Paul Nailor
