WILLIAM M. KEANE

1932 - 2022

WILLIAM M. KEANE, of Chapel Hill, N.C., was called home by his Creator on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022. Born March 16, 1932, in Fort Wayne, he earned a Bachelor's in Philosophy and Commerce from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA degree from Indiana University. He was a CPA/tax professional with Arthur Young, college professor at the University of Florida, Duke and Notre Dame and a partner at Price Waterhouse in New York retiring in 1990. He was an avid sports fan and was extremely proud of coaching his four children in basketball from elementary through junior high school. He enjoyed the game of golf and was a passionate fan of Notre Dame and the Cincinnati Reds. In retirement, he was a volunteer consultant with the Executive Service Corps, the Notre Dame Alumni Tax Assistance Program and served on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Rape Crisis Center. As a husband, father and grandfather, he always tried to exemplify the values he grew up with. He dearly loved and was proud of his wife and family and their accomplishments. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Joy Keane; son, Michael (Katy) Keane of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Peggy (Bill) Keough of Carnation, Wash., Megan (Anthony) DeSantis of Woodinville, Wash., and Laura Keane (Mark Sanderson) of Philadelphia, Pa.; granddaughters, Shannon Keough, Alexandra Keane Gibson, Quinn, and Reese Sanderson; grandsons, Brennan Keough, Nicholas DeSantis and Beckett Sanderson; and two sisters, Molly K. Houlihan and Anne K. Newell. He was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" G. Keane. Funeral services will be held at a future date. His final resting place will be at the University of Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Orange County Rape Crisis Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina or the American Indian College Fund.
