Gracie Melendy Obituary
Born Sept. 3, 1937, in Rockland, she was the daughter of the late Orris and Jennie (Young) Philbrook.
She had lived in Berwick since 1974, and grew up on Matinicus Island. She was employed as a registered nurse at Riverside Rest Home in Dover, N.H. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Somersworth. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts and volunteering at the church on the Caregivers, Mission Committee, Women's Fellowship, Table of Plenty, Church Suppers and Adult Bible Study.
Members of her family include her sons, Lt. Col. Vernon L. Scribner and his wife, Alisa, currently stationed at Arnold AFB, Tenn., Capt. Orris H. Scribner of St. Croix USVI and her daughters, Jenny L. Jeffers and her husband, Robert, of Strafford, N.H.; Rebecca S. Scribner and Steve Benner of Berwick, Joyce B. Blanchette and her husband, Marc, of Rochester, N.H.; her grandchildren, Katrina, Kristin, Reah, Vernon Jr. and Jenna Scribner, Sonyalynn Giswold, Samantha, Jason, Shannon, Jonathan, and Saraha, Irving, Sabrinalin Jeffers, Ryan and Melissa Blanchette, Niketa and Tyler Benner; her great-grandchildren, Lilliana Grace Griswold, Amber Ruest, Brooklin Skiltas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Melendy, in 2002.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at the First Parish United Church of Christ, 176 West High Street, Somersworth, N.H. A period of visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either Activities Fund, Riverside Rest Home, 276 County Farm Road, Dover, N.H. 03820, or to her church address above, care of the Memorial Fund.
Arrangements are under the care of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H. 03867.

TO all of Gracie's family,so sorry for your lost,I can't imagine life without her she has touch so many she was a wonderful kind generous I could go on and on ,one thing I'm sure of is that God had His arm wide open to welcome her.What a gem one of the kind.
