Herbert Goodell Obituary

ROCHESTER — Herbert "Herbie" E. Goodell, 89, of 53 Prospect St., died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at his home after a long illness.

Born Aug. 3, 1922, in Bingham, Maine, he was the son of the late Levi and Marion (Rollins) Goodell.

Herbie had lived in Rochester for the past 53 years after moving from Portsmouth. He worked as a truck driver for Interstate Transportation for many years until his retirement and a member of the Teamsters Union. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a radar operator in New Guinea. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Lottie Goodell. In his younger years he enjoyed tinkering and cleaning his cars.

Members of his family include his sons, Steve Goodell and his wife, Jakki, of Rochester and Herbie Goodell of Rochester; his daughters, Cheryl Dallaire and her husband, David, of Rochester and Brenda Fontaine of Alton, N.H.; his grandchildren, Scott Dallaire and his wife, Kelly, Brett Goodell and his wife, Shay, Casey Goodell, Katelyn and Megan Fontaine and Tyler Goodell.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lottie Hustus; three brothers and two sisters and a grandson, Cory Dallaire.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester N.H.

Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
