David Englehardt Obituary

David J. Englehardt, 81, of N. Hatfield, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital with his family by his side to support him in his final journey of life. He was born on June 1, 1944, in Northampton to the late Theodore "Ted" and Marion (Peramba) Englehardt and was a lifelong resident of N. Hatfield. He graduated from Smith Academy in Hatfield, class of 1966. Dave married his high school sweetheart, Mary Myers and they settled in N. Hatfield, where they built their home. They were married for almost 59 years. David and his family spent many of their summers at their camp on Lake Winnipesaukee where they boated the entire lake. David joined the local plumber's union – Local #64 and spent 5 years learning the trade and eventually became a journeyman and master plumber, gas fitter, steamfitter and welder. He worked as a union plumber for several years and later was employed by the University of Massachusetts as a plumber and later transferred to the Northampton State Hospital, where he became the foreman and stayed for 28 years. He helped to close the buildings and secure the plumbing for its transition as it is today. David retired in 1995 but kept active doing projects and was very talented with anything mechanical and could weld and make everything he needed. His talents will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Mary and daughter Rebecca Englehardt both of N. Hatfield, he also leaves nephews, several cousins, including Kathi Plank of Greenfield. David was predeceased by his parents Ted and Marion Englehardt. Calling hours will be Monday July 7, 2025, from 9 AM – 11 AM at DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 Damon Rd., Northampton. A prayer service will begin in the funeral home at 11 AM, burial will immediately follow in Holy Name of Jesus Cemetery, S. Deerfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: Brian Wood, PO Box 153, Loma, Montana, 59460, Co-founder of the Afghan Hound Project. I went to school with Dave in Smith Academy, He always had good humor. Dave could tell stories mostly about his family for hours. He always had a nice car and we would go for a ride during lunch. He had a heart of gold and a mind like a steel trap. He was a true friend and dependable, his word was as good as gospel. He loved big equipment and was always making or fixing something. His family was as close as it could get. His wife Mary and daughter Becky, were the shinning stars in his life. I will miss him very much, there was only one Dave Englehardt.
