Andrew Johnson Obituary
Andrew Gerald "Andy" Johnson, 67, passed away on August 16, 2025, in Frederick, Maryland. Born on March 10, 1958, in Olney, Maryland, Andy lived a life filled with love for family, a passion for adventure, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
A proud graduate of Damascus High School's Class of 1976, Andy went on to build a meaningful career with the Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland. His work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his professional life until his well-earned retirement.
Andy was a devoted partner to Kathy Jones Kendall and a loving father to his two sons: Joseph Johnson and wife Janine of Damascus, Maryland; and Joshua Johnson and wife Aleasha of Bushnell, Florida. He cherished his role as a grandfather to twelve grandchildren-Justin Johnson, with whom he shared a particularly special bond, Jolie, Andrew, Abel, Josiah, Jericho, Haley, Elizabeth, Patrick, David, Aaron, and Mikayla and six great-grandchildren, Zoe, Zayden, Zane, Ellie, Sebastian, and Ivory. His beloved sister Teresa Turnbull and her husband John of Damascus, Maryland also held an important place in his heart. He loved his niece, nephews, great niece and great nephews.
Family was the cornerstone of Andy's life. He found immense joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories through shared experiences. Whether it was gathering for picnics or hosting backyard BBQs, Andy brought warmth and laughter to every occasion. He especially enjoyed attending parties at friends' homes and treasured the camaraderie those moments brought.
An adventurer at heart, Andy had a lifelong love for motorcycle riding. The open road called to him like nothing else-offering peace, freedom, and exhilaration. He also enjoyed shooting guns with family members and relished the opportunity to bond over shared hobbies.
Andy was preceded in death by his father Gearld Hartsell Johnson; his mother Claire Catherine Johnson; and brother Michael William Johnson.
Those who knew Andy will remember him as someone who lived fully-embracing each day with energy and enthusiasm. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held September 28, 2025 2:00 pm at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 28325 Kemptown Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872.
