Carl Yeakel Obituary

Mr. Carl D. Yeakel, 85, of Frederick, a retired executive director of the Federal Supply Service, General Services Administration, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of LaRue Miller Yeakel for 62 years.

Born Jan. 26, 1920, in Zionsville, Pa., he was the son of the late Titus M. and Jennie S. Gerhart Yeakel. Mr. Yeakel was a graduate of East Greenville High School, East Greenville, Pa. He received his accounting degree from Bethlehem Business College, Bethlehem, Pa. Mr. Yeakel served in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw active duty in the Pacific Theatre, including New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan.

After receiving his honorable discharge in 1946, Mr. Yeakel returned to his position with the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Philadelphia, Pa. In 1953, he transferred to a position with the General Services Administration, Washington, D.C., until his retirement in 1975.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 0011.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Dale Yeakel and daughter-in-law Gloria of Potomac Falls, Va.; grandsons, David Yeakel and wife Amy, and Richard Yeakel, all of California, and Christopher Yeakel of Potomac Falls, Va.; and his sister Edith F. Krause of Bethlehem, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Yeakel, and sister, Viola M. Kershner.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 515 S. Market St., Frederick, on Tuesday, March 1, from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Beverly Stang will officiate.

Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation Inc., 710 W. 168 Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10032.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.
