Craig Shafer Obituary

Craig Shafer passed away on October 5, 2025, in Frederick, Md.

Craig was a proud graduate of Southern High School in Oakland, Md., and later attended Vocational School in Baltimore, Md., where he trained in CAD design. Among his accomplishments, he proudly served on the Board of Directors for The Freedom Center in Frederick, Md.

For the past 37 years, Craig lived as a quadriplegic, yet he never allowed his disability to limit his life. He could often be found attending concerts, riding along the C&O Canal in Brunswick, traveling through downtown Frederick, or enjoying community events in Baker's Park. Craig loved life, cherished meeting new people, and inspired everyone who crossed his path with his resilience, kindness, and joy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Griffith, and her husband, Butch.

Craig is survived by his loving wife, Chrissa Kisner; stepdaughter, Marcella Maiers, and granddaughter, Baylee, of Cumberland, Md.; stepson, Matthew Maiers, and his wife, Cierra, of Fairmont, W.Va.; father, Dave Shafer, and his wife, Lynne, of Swanton, Md.; sister, Angela Shafer; niece, Jessica Stotelmyer Roy, and her fiance, Chris Tasker; great-niece, Nevaeh Tasker; nephew, Justin Shafer-all of Oakland, Md.; step-sister Chris Ocvirek, Cumberland, Md.; mother-in-law, Carla Hyson, and her husband, Harry Gerry, of Marion, S.C.; sister-in-law Amanda Kisner, niece Isys Jara and nephew Andrew Casimir of Fredericksburg, Va.; and sister-in-law Michelle Lambert, Virginia Beach, Va.

Visitation/Viewing will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick, MD on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Home, Oakland, MD. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, with service to be held at noon. Interment will follow at the Deer Park Cemetery in Deer Park, MD.
