David E. Newhart

1943 - 2018

David E. Newhart, resident of Frederick, MD, formerly of Moravia, NY peacefully passed away after a series of illnesses on June 10, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends.

Dave was born at home on December 12, 1943, one of the last home births in Moravia. Growing up he was an avid participant in sports, baseball and football among his favorites, and was also an excellent hunter and fisherman who enjoyed both tremendously. While in school he took flying lessons, soloing at 16 years old, and attaining his private pilot's license at 17. To support his flying hobby and his family he worked at a local grocery store chain, taking several positions culminating as a meat cutter. After graduating high school in 1962 he soon purchased a small grocery store with a former coworker. Over time they expanded the business into commercial trucking and farming, employing many local people over the years. Never one to be content to sit still, Dave built an airport on his property where he hosted many fly-in breakfasts and snowmobile races, and supported a small flying school. Later in life he was elected to both the local and county school boards.

Moving to Maryland in 1988, he worked several jobs, culminating with a retirement from the Frederick County Public School system as a special education bus driver. Even as his health failed he was very proud of his long time membership with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), also based locally in Frederick.

Perhaps his most endearing trait until his last day was an extremely keen sense of humor and quick wit, never failing to make anyone laugh within seconds of any conversation or text.

Dave will be dearly missed by his loving wife of over 53 years Sharon (Rohm), and his children Daryl (Pam), Deborah Henry (Mark), Ed (Lindsay), Adam (Heather), and his beloved 10 grandchildren; Alex, Dara, Kyle, Delaney, Kurtis, Remington, David, Jacob, Olivia and Ella; sister Nancy Baker and sister-in-law Marge Newhart. He was predeceased by his mother Mary, and his brother Jim Newhart.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 16th at Buckeystown United Methodist Church, MD for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to the Buckeystown United Methodist Church would be greatly appreciated by his family.
