David Sappington Obituary

Mr. David Jerome Sappington Jr., 62, of 2404 Ellsworth Way, Frederick, died Friday, Oct. 20, at his home, after an extended illness.

He was the husband of Brenda Butler Sappington, his wife of 29 years.

Born Aug. 21, 1938, in Frederick, he was a son of the late Evelyn Fletcher and stepson of the late Vincent Keys.

Mr. Sappington was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a member of Strawbridge United Methodist Church, New Windsor.

He served for two years in Germany with the U.S. Army in the 39th Infantry.

Mr. Sappington had been employed as a supervisor for Eastalco Aluminum Co., Buckeystown, for 28 years until his retirement in 1995.

He bowled on a team at Terrace Lanes, Frederick.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Penny Lynn Sappington of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, Mitchell L. Butler of Frederick, and David J. Sappington III and wife Tamala of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Falyne Sappington, Tiarra Butler, Marcus A. Johnson and Katlyne E. Sappington; one stepbrother, Milton Fletcher Jr.; and numerous aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Strawbridge Methodist Church, with Mr. Sappington's pastor, the Rev. Winifred A. Blagmond, officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702; or the American Cancer Society, 33 E. Patrick St., Frederick, Md. 21701.
