Edward Schatzle Obituary

Edward Schatzle, 81 of Frederick passed away on July 26, 2024. He was born in Warren, PA on August 28, 1942 to the late Robert and Marjorie Schatzle. He was the husband of Susan Gunn Schatzle, his wife of 54 years.

He is survived by his sons Paul and Mark Schatzle, daughter Lisa Schatzle Haynes (Tyler) and his grandchildren Selam, Jocelyn, Madelyn, Nathan (Sarah) and Scarlett. His in-laws, Chris (Janet) of Ohio, Jennifer of California and Peter (Karen) of New Jersey. All of whom he thought of as his own siblings.

Ed was born and raised in Warren, PA with his older sister Peggy and younger brother Bobby. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the Sea Bees. He was stationed at Virginia Beach, VA, Reykjavik, Iceland and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Mission Crisis.

After being discharged from the Navy, he was hired by United Airlines at JFK Airport in New York. He worked in Ramp and Passenger Service and then at Trans International Airlines, a charter airline. He was responsible for the airplane, crew, passengers and luggage for each flight. His trips took him to the Caribbean Islands, South America and domestically from coast to coast and in between.

Ed and Susan met, married and started a family. Shortly after, they moved to Frederick, MD. He worked for Genstar as a concrete transit mixer driver. While there he was a shop steward and treasurer of the local union. After his retirement he enjoyed socializing with the Dunkin Donuts coffee group and the Genstar retirees. He enjoyed traveling, domestic and international. Everything aviation oriented was a favored activity, playing flight simulator on the computer, watching the activity at the local airport and anything family oriented. His life was full and happy with family, friends and felines.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon until 1:30 PM on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Frederick. Inurnment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Edward Schatzle
