Marie Bissonnette Obituary

On March 3, 2013, Ms. Marie Anita Bissonnette, MSG, USA (Ret.) died at her home, which she shared in Frederick, MD with her best friend and wife of 18 years.

Marie was born on April 19, 1957 in Manchester, NH. She attended the University of Maryland in College Park, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement with minors in Criminology, Psychology, and Sociology.

She joined the United States Army on January 27, 1981, served as a Signals Intelligence Analyst and German linguist, and after 20 years, retired honorably on September 30, 2001. Marie served her nation in California, Kansas, two tours in Germany, Texas, the Republic of Korea, Bosnia- Herzegovina, and Maryland. Highlights of her service were living history when assigned to Berlin, East Germany when the wall and border fell; and her deployment to Bosnia- Herzegovina in 1998-1999 under Task Force Eagle in sup- port of Stabilization Forces.

Marie loved to fish, kayak, bike, hike, tend her garden, cook gourmet multi-course meals, and ride her Harley Davidson motorcycle.
She will be loved and remembered forever, surrounded by so many positive, shining lights – competent and tough Army Non- Commissioned Officer, best friend who laughed a lot and did goofy things to make others laugh and smile, partner/wife, mother to two wonderful girls, daughter, sister, friend. My love, perhaps you will ride/soar along with me in the form of an eagle or hawk; I know when you are at peace you will visit...watching and waiting for my owl to come and sit.

Marie is survived by her wife, Ms. Stephanie Ann Eeckhout; daughters Patricia Swisher and Alexandra Lopez; mother Therese Perron; numerous siblings and extended family; and so many friends that loved her dearly. You are so missed.

A memorial for Project Healing Waters will be established in Marie's name to further honor her devotion to her nation, and benefit disabled military service personnel.

A memorial will be held in Frederick, MD for family and friends to celebrate her life. Marie will receive full military honors and be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Arlington National Cemetery.

You were loved and adored by many. You touched all of our lives with your fun and loving spirit. I was shocked the day I heard the news, still it is hard to accept that you are gone even now. I think of you often, when I say my middle name, which is yours. When I say my daughters middle name, which is yours. When mom and I talk about many different things, you are in our conversations. On beautiful days, I tell mom "it's a nice day for a ride" (on her Harley) I also think of you, and how I would have one day went for rides with you. When I hear many of the songs we danced to, and the games we played, the places we went, the gardens we planted. You are so loved. Thank you for loving me, as well, and influencing me in so many ways. You are truly missed. I hope you are at peace and that we will one day meet again. Love you more than words can say.

Steph,
Our prayers are for you, Marie and your family. I first worked with Marie back in the 1992 timeframe in TX, and was so happy to see her again in 1997, again in TX and on to Bosnia. She was a super soldier, and a wonderful, down to earth person. With deepest sympathy for you and her family.

Like many of you, I am shocked to hear of Marie's loss. Marie, you were a great Soldier and friend. I will never forget your sense of humor and how much you enjoyed life. You always kept me track at Ft. Hood and I wish I would've been able to join you and Steph for that "pitcher of beer" at the bowling alley. Steph, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
