Michael Strine Obituary

Mr. Michael (Mick) J. Strine, 78, of Frederick, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Mick was born January 23, 1947 in Frederick, MD. He was the only child of the late John E. Strine and the late Betty Pearn Strine.

He grew up in Thurmont, MD, graduating from Thurmont High School in 1965. He attended Frostburg State College, completing his bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1969. At Frostburg, he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon men's fraternity. He subsequently attended Hood College for his master's degree in public administration, where he was a member of the first class that admitted men. He attended American University in Washington, D.C. to earn an additional 30 hours toward a PhD.

After graduating from Frostburg, he taught at Yellow Springs Elementary School, Urbana Elementary School, Elm Street School (until it closed) and Walkersville Intermediate School. He was active in the Frederick County Teachers Association and was the youngest person ever elected President of that association. In 1984, he transitioned into a career in real estate, focusing on commercial real estate sales and management. During his career, he was well regarded for his market knowledge, business judgment and people skills. He and won numerous awards, including the1984 Rookie of the Year Award and the 2000 Charles S.V. Sanner Memorial Award.

In 1992, he married Janney K. Marshall in Frederick, and they lived happily in the Baker Park community for nearly 33 years. Very proud of his English heritage, Mick traveled with his family to England multiple times during his life, read extensively about English history and drank black tea daily in honor of his mother, a war bride from Penzance, England. Mick was a charming contrarian, with a great sense of humor, an easy-going attitude and a passion for digging through the rock music archives. He and Janney enjoyed their shared loves of cooking and travel.

In addition to Janney, Mick is survived by three children, William Michael Strine, James Colin Strine and Jeannette Anne Marshall; and grandchildren Zoe Eloise Strine and Lilly James Strine.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E Church St, Frederick, MD.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please have a drink and a laugh in honor of Mick. Online condolences can be made at www.KeeneyBasford.com Michael "Mick" J. Strine
