I knew Peter as footstomper as well on the CSN board. He welcomed me when I first came scared to death. He was always upbeat for everyone. He will me missed.

I knew Peter as Footstomper on our kidney cancer forum on the CSN site. I will miss his witt, his intelligence, and his loving, supportive counsel on our site. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his close friends and family.

To hear about "Footstomper's" passing was a true shock to all who knew him on the CSN board. "Foots" was so supportive to the newbies and the veterans. I'll miss his wit, his input, and his perspective on things. Please know that Mr. Whitby touched many lives and will certainly be missed.

I never met Mr. Whitby in person, but through the online support network as Footstomper. He was one of the first to respond to my post and I will not forget his sense of humor and kindness to me and many others on the forum. God bless him and bring comfort and help to his family. I am sure you can see what a blessing and influence he was on so many people. Love to you.

His spirit and sense of humor was a blessing to us on the ACS forum. He was always ready with a supportive word. He will be missed.

My heart touches all who knew and love Peter, but my heart hurts for his wife and family.

I knew Peter as Footstomper, at the CSN or cancer survivors network. He was a tremendous supporter of all, funny, hilarious at times, but tender hearted for sure.

We just ran a post for the last week wondering what happened to him. Although glad to finally know, we're all in shock. You see, its like we're family. So yes, he had so many who got to be a part of his life. I am honored to have known him. Will go and re-read all his posts, and "talk" to him some more.

Hugs to all who read this. Print out these responses, it helps.

Jan from WISCONSIN. USA.

I had the pleasure of getting to know him through his dedicated support to an online forum. His words, often humorous (and occasionally sardonic) were always a shining light to others seeking guidance, support and companionship. His presence will be missed.

Stomper (Peter) was a long term internt friend. We shared a love for West Ham and an interest in history and religion. Peter, the historian and me, the anthropologist. We were also both musicians, singers, writers and poets. I loved our chats and e mails. I chatted to him just the day before he left us.
I can only offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends. I will miss my mate, Stomper, but the tears have now dried and the lovely memories will remain. Thanks for the memories, Pete. They will last as long as I do.

I only knew Pete through www.westhamonline.net (as Stomper) but he was a much loved and very intelligent poster by all. As a result of our online conversations I felt compelled to attend his Memorial Service.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Whitby was a great teacher who was loved by many students. Both of my children enjoyed his classes and we wanted to join them after listening to him speak at a back to school night. May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories as you celebrate a life well lived, although gone too soon.

As a student, I had Mr. Whitby as a teacher twice; once in philosophy, where he taught me to think for myself, and once as an aide to his World History class, which was essentially an excuse to take his class and hang out with him without having to turn any assignments in.

I owe him for two great favors: the first, for introducing me to episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in class (which to this very day is my favorite TV show of all time), and the second for showing me what a teacher can be. Teachers impart knowledge, and facts, sure, but they can do so much more. As a teacher myself, all these years later, I still think of his easy classroom mannerisms, how he treated his students like equals, rather than children, and how much it can mean to a teenager to just have someone listen, actually listen, to what they are saying.

I'll count myself lucky if I impact even one student like that, and he touched hundreds.

I am very sorry for your loss and my prayers go out to the family during this difficult time.Peter was truly an "original" and I feel so blessed for having known him. I was a classmate of Peter's at Hood.Being an adult student I felt out of place at times, but he was a tremendous role model and helped put me at ease. He brought so much to the classes we shared and his intelligence surpassed all of us. He was a great story teller and I was in awe of his knowledge of music, history and philosophy. He caught the professors off guard and many times he became the teacher and they the student. He lit up the room when he came to class, his sense of humor amazing. We all were seperated while doing our Master's thesis and everyone was out of contact. He was the first person I saw at graduation, and I was so happy to be at the same graduation ceremony. Heaven has a very special angel. I will remember him with great fondness.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Whitby. He was my social studies teacher for a year at WFMS, and his class is one I remember most from middle school. He encouraged us to be as creative as possible in our work. He once asked if he could make up a tune to a poem I'd written for an assignment and sing it for the class, and he did, which really made my day. He taught with lots of humor, and he sometimes read comedy skits to us while we worked. He told us to never listen when someone says we aren't good enough at something, and to do it anyway, like he did with his singing. We all loved when he brought in his guitar and sang for us. His care for students , his vibrant personality, and his unique style made him a remarkable teacher I am sure many will remember. I pray for his repose, and for the comfort of all who knew him, especially his family.

Pete was my little brother - strange thing to say on a page like this. Witty, charming, sarcastic, committed, incredibly talented as a teacher and as a musician and one of the nicest people you could meet. He was devastated when his illness made him retire from teaching but he again picked up his guitar as treatment allowed him the strength to play again. Told him we were going to come over to see him at the end of April - too little, too late. Goodbye Pete, I'll forever be in awe of your humanity and your talent.

I express my deepest condolences to the Whitby family on the loss of Mr. Peter Whitby. I had Mr. Whitby as a teacher for Modern World History in the 10th grade at Walkersville High School and I had him as my Graduation Project adviser/mentor during my senior semester at WHS. Mr. Whitby was one of many wonderful teachers that I had over there. His wisdom and expertise in world history and rock music were cherished by all- including revisiting several definitive classic motion pictures related to events in world history was cherished by all. I didn't know he graduated with a Master's from Hood. Again, I extend my condolences to the entire Whitby family on the loss of Mr. Whitby.

I had Mr. Whitby as a 6th grader and 7th grader when he taught at WFMS back in 2000 and 2001. To this day he has always been a teacher I remember. He was so caring and kind. He loved music and incorporated it into our school lives. One of my fondest memories in middle school was of him playing the guitar and singing for the students as we changed classes. Instead of going to classes, the majority of us gathered around him and sang with him. He was truly a wonderful teacher and wonderful human being. He will be missed by all those who knew him
