Shirley Smith Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Eileen Smith, 88, of New Market, Maryland, who passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025. Born January 15, 1937, in Cedar Grove, she was the youngest of seven children of Jessie and William Poole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kemp Smith; her parents; siblings; and eldest son, Terry Allen Burns. She is survived by her sons, Gary Michael Burns and Richard Kemp Smith Jr.; niece, Jade Soltani; grandchildren, Christine, Alexis, Gavin, Tyler, Jessie, and Madeline; great-grandchildren, Austin and Noah; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley lived her life with strength, conviction, and an unwavering sense of independence. She had a sharp eye for a good deal, a soft spot for angels, and a lifelong devotion to Redskins football. Shirley loved the sweetness of peaches, fall weather, and her daily walks with her partner in crime, Jack - her 19-year-old Bichon Frise.

Shirley had a deep for animals. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Humane Society. Shirley Eileen Smith

Aunt Shirley you are the last of my Dad's family, your brother, to leave us. Heaven will welcome an independent and sassy lady who had a wonderful sense of humor and laughter. You will be missed. Rest easy - Love Leslie
