Veronica Meadows Obituary

Mrs. Veronica L. Meadows, 85, of Frederick, fondly known as Bonnye, Gamma and Gamma-Great, passed on the morning of Dec. 30 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Alonzo Edward Meadows, who died March 7, 1967.

Born on Sept. 10, 1919 in Durham, Maine, she was the daughter of the late John Albert and Annie Jameson Cumming.

She was a long-time member of Saint Mary's Chapter, All Saints Episcopal Church and the Frederick Knitting Club. She served as the Corporate Secretary of Meadows Van Storage Company from 1970 until her retirement. Bonnye will be missed by friends and bridge partners at Somerford House and the EcoVillage community potluck group. She was an artist, master seamstress, adventuresome traveler and camper. Full of grace, good humor, generosity and enthusiasm, Bonnye was also an avid crossword puzzler and bird-watcher. Gamma is remembered by her family as a remarkable teacher, mentor and matriarch.

She was preceded in death by siblings Regina Cumming, Jacqueline Cumming Kemp, Alma Cumming Caviness and Reginald Cumming.

She remains beloved by her children, David and Martha Meadows, Jaime and Tom Dixon, and Tena and Grady O'Rear; grandchildren April Meadows, David and Leanna Meadows, Melanie and John Stuart, Michele and Parker Thompson, John Daiger, Ryan and Amy Daiger, Kendal and Mark Slezak, Jason and Colleen Daiger, Scotia Mortenson, Solveig Mortenson and Brennan O'Rear; great-grandchildren Bryce Meadows, Cory Meadows, Morgan Daiger, Kennedy Daiger, Hayden Daiger, Riley Daiger, Ethan Daiger and Hank Thompson; brother-in-law Harry Kemp; nieces and nephews Vivian and John Egan, Tobi Kemp Hosie, Monty Kemp, Reggie Cumming, Connie Cumming, Sandra Williams, Gary and Theresa Kemp, Rodney and Debbie Kemp and Doug and Emily Caviness; numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many dear friends.

Arrangements are being handled by the Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, P.A., 1201 North Market Street, Frederick. There will be no visiting or calling at the funeral home.

A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 1 at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 108 West Church Street, Frederick. The Reverend Andrew Jones will officiate.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, be made in memory of Mrs. Meadows to the St. Mary's Chapter, care of All Saints Episcopal Church, 108 West Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
