James Mullen Obituary

James F. Mullen

James F. Mullen, 62, of Dahlgren died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at his home.

A lifelong resident of King George County, James had served six years in the Army National Guard. For two years he served as special game warden, and from 1976 to 1993 he was a part-time sheriff's deputy. For 40 years he owned and operated James F. Mullen Grading, Clearing and Hauling Inc.

Very active in his county, he was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Builders Association and Historical Society and a founding member of the Fairview Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He was a local historian and Civil War buff and participated in many Civil War re-enactments. From 2008 to 2011 he served on the King George Board of Supervisors.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Peggy Burgess Mullen, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Oakland Baptist Church Annex. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Oakland Baptist Church, with burial following in the Burgess family cemetery in Dahlgren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the King George Historical Society; or King George Fire and Rescue.
