Steven McAnally Obituary

Steven Dixon McAnally went to be with our Lord on Tuesday March 26, 2024 on his family ranch near Luckenbach. Steven was born in Shreveport, LA to parents Lon-Wyatt and Kathryn Lovaladdy McAnally. He was a "premie", making his appearance on New Year's Eve 1952 instead of Valentine's Day 1953. In addition to his parents, he was welcomed by two brothers, eleven and twelve years older who were his first role models.

Steven grew up living all over the Western U.S. as his dad was in the seismic exploration business. In the late 50's and early 60's, Steven's dad found a great job opportunity in Australia and Steven and his parents lived there for nearly four years before returning to the U.S. for Steven to attend High School. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, attended Trinity University in San Antonio, where he was a member of the Bengal Lancers fraternity and was elected Chairman of the Freshman Class. He took a year off from college and travelled to Europe with a roommate, a backpack, and a Eurail Pass. Returning home, he graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Political Science. A friend's dad suggested he go into the financial services industry because he never met a stranger and had the "gift of gab." He spent the next 23 years working in that industry. On August 2, 1980 he married Randye Campbell in Houston, TX and became "Pop" to her eight-year-old son, Bo. Son Clay and daughter Alix were born in Houston before job promotions and transfers took the family to Dallas and San Antonio. In 1992 while living in San Antonio, Steve and Randye purchased land near Fredericksburg and started Watershed Ranch. They moved to the ranch in 1997. In 2001, they started Fredericksburg Farms, Inc. and the business continues today.

With his charismatic personality, Steve was active in the communities in which he lived, as a Boy Scout leader, church lay leader, in Band Boosters and 4H. He had been a member of Rotary, an active leader in the Emmaus community and was a member of the Fredericksburg Economic Development Council. He was a youth Bible study leader for many years and a was mentor for countless young people.

Steven is survived by his wife of 43 years, Randye McAnally, of Fredericksburg, two sons, a daughter, and their spouses: James "Bo" Morris of Fredericksburg, Clay and Kari McAnally, of San Antonio, and Alix and Ryan Crunk of Fredericksburg, four grandchildren including Henry McAnally, Parker McAnally, and Cora McAnally of San Antonio and Amelia Crunk of Fredericksburg. In addition, Steve is survived by two brothers and spouses, L.W. and Elizabeth McAnally of Charleston, SC and Robert and Patricia McAnally of Houston, TX along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 1800 Llano Fredericksburg, TX. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to The Good Samaritan Center, The Hill Country Community Needs Council, or the charity of choice.

My heart breaks for you Randye, Clay, & Alix. Sending lots of hugs and prayers for God’s Peace for each of you. wish we could be with you in person, but know our hearts are with you through the Holy Spirit we share. Steve was such a Godly man, always welcoming me with a hug and a smile. We know he is resting peacefully in the arms of his Lord and Savior, but the pain of having to say even this temporary goodbye is great. Well done good and faithful servant! You will be missed!
