It has been 4 years since the shocking news of your unexpected death.
I miss you every day and I miss the long phone calls we had from Israel to the United States.
My only hope is that your suffering has come to an end but it's just unfortunate that it was so tragic.
Rest in peace.

Dear Randi and family
I was so saddened to read in the Sharr HaShomayim Shul Windsor bulletin today of the passing of Mark. I remember him well from the Sharrey Zedek days when you were all friends with my sister Gail and my parents the Shanfields. He was such an asset to the Shul and every where he went the room lit up and he was such a pleasure to speak with. My you be comforted among the mourners of Jerusalem and Zion. He will be missed by all

i am in total shock , mark and myself were very close in high school , we both had camaros , we were always getting into trouble . i will miss him dearly . this was the last thing i sent to him . " For you my friend" what if your friend was gone tomorrow and you never told them how you felt? what if you never again heard their voice , never saw their face or felt their warm embrace? i just want to say that you are special to me and you've made a difference in my life , i care for you, i respect you and i cherish our friendship. i want you to know that you are in my thoughts and in my prayers during this crucial time in our lives. " that was my last text to mark . mark we will all miss you dearly my friend may you rest in peace . with heavy heart we love you. your friend joe .e

Beloved Mark,
You left us in midlife in shock and pain!
You were to me as a brother!
Our grandparents were siblings: I first met you when you were 16 years old on my first visit to the U.S. and since then I've accompanied you over the years, through your studies, your amazing career as a veterinarian, your marriage with Randi and your move from Canada to California.
Your quest to find the gold coins treasure and its discovery was, and still is, amazing and truly unbelievable. The writing of the book documenting the historical research is a testament both to your tremendous knowledge about the Jewish people during World War II and to your willpower and perseverance. Travelling across the country to distribute the book was an important contribution to bringing awareness of the Holocaust.
You left behind a distinguished legacy!
I still can't believe I'm speaking about you in past tense.
I miss you already.
May your memory be blessed.

I was attending the Annual General Meeting of Shaar Hashomayim synagogue in Windsor when Brian Lazarus informed the group of your passing. I was STUNNED. I had a great deal of admiration for you, as a board member of my shul, a good friend and mensch and as a dedicated family man and accomplished doctor. Your WWII library rivaled some of the best I've ever seen, and it was always a pleasure talking with you. Randi, I just don't know what to say. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I found the attached photo, taken during the 2009 Menorah lighting ceremony at Devonshire Mall, in my archive of community photos.

RIP mark.
I always marveled how a big goalie could get up and down so fast. You always played in position an never let goals you let in get to you. I didn’t know mark on a personal level and only during hockey always trying to find the holes on a monster of a goalie.
Mark will be missed for his gentle demeanor and ferocious play

I am deeply sorry for your families loss. Although we lost touch for many years Mark and I were incredibly close growing up thru elementary and JR high and our first year of high school. Mark will be missed from hockey in his basement to being late for school because his brother Eddie just couldn’t get up in the morning to get us to school on time. Great times on Woodvilla. Life was a lot simpler and slower in Oak Park and Southfield. I recently read his book and was very proud of his determination to find his family’s truth. Rest In Peace my friend and may your memory be a blessing. Sincerely Scott Goodwin class of 1979.

Randi and Family, So very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I knew him as a very competitive hockey goal tender, here in Windsor, Ontario. I played many hours of hockey with him. He was respected as a talented goal tender and a fine sportsman on and off of the ice. i remember him bringing a hockey team from ISRAEL to play in the Annual Riverside hockey Tournament. we went out to cheer the kids on that year. I also sharpened Mark's skates.
My sincere condolences to you and your Family on the passing of your very talented Gentleman. God Speed Doc. Shalom my Friend.
