Brett Sorensen Obituary

Brett Michael Sorensen, 35, of Winton, Calif., formerly of Fremont, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif.

He was born Nov. 3, 1971, in Omaha to Richard and Candace Sorensen. He spent his early years in Fremont before the family moved to Fremont, Calif., where he graduated from Washington High School. He married the love of his life, Estella Burden, on June 17, 2000, and to this union they have two precious sons, Christopher, 3 years old, and Jonathan, 10 months old.

He also is survived by his parents, Richard and Candace Sorensen of Union City, Calif.; and his brother, Scott (and wife, Deb) Sorensen of Brentwood, Calif.

Brett and Estella moved to Winton when he joined the Federal Penitentiary as a corrections officer in 2001. In 2006, he was promoted to an executive assistant at the "CAMP." In 2007, he received the award for excellence in his performance.

He was a self defense instructor and part of the DCT team. He had many passions, was faithful to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, loved to go fishing and playing golf, going to the movies and playing his video games. Most of all, he loved playing with his sons and his niece, Victoria, and nephews, Nathan and Zachary, and spending time with his wife. He was a black belt in two forms of martial arts first in Tae Kwon Do and progressing to his black belt in Shun Ru.

The funeral was held today at Christian Life Center with the Rev. Eug Breinig officiating. Burial was in Winton Cemetery.
