Guy E. Newcomer, 86, of Fremont died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at Nye Pointe Health & Rehab Center in Fremont.
Guy was born May 22, 1928, in Omaha to Guy and Nelda (Smeltzer) Newcomer.
Guy grew up in Omaha and graduated from Omaha Tech High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1949 to 1953 and then served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He graduated from Bahner College of Hairstyling in Fremont and also was a graduate of a Theology School in Kansas City.
He was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and employed for 35 years with the Union Pacific Railroad. He also drove a semi-truck for many years prior to retiring in 1988. He lived in Cedar Bluffs, Fremont, Jacksonville, Fla., Azusa, Calif., Newburgh, Ind., and then returned to Fremont. He was a "Jack of All Trades" and loved trains, flew airplanes and had a passion for cars. He traveled and enjoyed vacationing with his family. He also enjoyed golf, baseball and walking.
He was married to Patsy Ann Kudrna from 1955 to 1986. He then was married to Marilyn Newcomer from 1991 to 2006.
He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Ellyn Newcomer of Wahoo, and Doug and Sharlene Newcomer of Fremont; daughter, Suzi Newcomer of Fremont; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Florence Newcomer of Gretna, and William and Janice Newcomer of Omaha; sister-in-law, Donna Newcomer of Omaha; five grandchildren, Daniel Newcomer Jr., Patrick, Heather, Dalton Newcomer and Steven Dunn; and five great-grandchildren, Ariel, Samantha, Haley, Tye and Shae.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. and Charlene A. Newcomer; brother, Milton Newcomer; and granddaughter, Rachel Newcomer.
The memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. David Coe of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont will officiate. There is no visitation. Military honors will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 and American Legion Post 20 at the funeral home following the memorial service.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial designation at a later date.
