Zelpha Kortum Obituary
Zelpha L. Kortum, 97, of Fremont died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Zelpha Howell was born Aug. 2, 1905, in North Bend. She was a 1923 graduate of Dodge High School. She taught in rural schools at Dodge and Oshkosh before her marriage to William Kortum March 28, 1925, at Schuyler. The couple farmed in Dodge and Colfax Counties until moving to Fremont in 1960.
She was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont and a member of the church circle.
Survivors include: her son, William (and wife, Delores) Kortum of Fremont; three daughters, Elaine (Mrs. Leon) Herre, Erma (Mrs. Dale) Ellison, and Roberta (Mrs. Warren) Hansen, all of Fremont; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, Dec. 27, 1978; a son, a brother, and a sister.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Revs. Michael Thomas and Del Hutton officiating. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 7 Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation continues one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fremont.
