Alexia "Laxie" Downs

ALEXIA DOWNS "Laxie" Laxie, age 86, was born on April 17, 1917, in Hanford, CA. She passed away quietly to be with the Lord at her home on Wednesday, August 6, 2003, in Clovis, CA. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Laxie was one of ten children, two sons and eight daughters, born to the late Joe P. and Helen Cabral of Hanford, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Max Downs Sr, owner of Down's Carpet Service in Fresno, CA. They moved to Fresno, CA. in 1940. Laxie is survived by four sons, Max Downs Jr., retired Fresno Police Chief, and his wife Karen of Fresno, Dr. Jim Downs, retired Fire Chief for the City of Sea Tac, WA, and his wife Ann of Seattle, WA, Lieutenant Ron Downs, Fresno Police Department, and his wife Carolyn of Fresno, and Mike Downs, Clovis Police Department CSO, and his wife Darlene of Clovis. Also surviving are four sisters, Angie Lawrence of Tulare, CA, Jerry Madruga of Hanford, CA, Ellen Missakian of Fresno, CA, and Ludrey Willams of Hanford, CA. She had 15 grandchildren, 18 great-granchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Laxie was a loving mother and grandmother who filled all with a strong sense of caring and compassion. She was committed to having everyone acquire a formal education. She instilled in all a sense of honesty, kindness, generosity, and work ethics. "Mom and grandma, you will be missed. Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Sunday, August 11, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Lisle Calaveras Chapel on Monday, August 11, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Belmont Memorial Park .
