Basil Paul Pratt

BASIL PAUL PRATT Basil Paul Pratt passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug 19, 2006, at the age of 86, at his Pismo Beach home, in the presence of his family. Basil was born on October 8, 1919, in Georgetown, Illinois. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1938, was on the USS Nevada battleship during the Pearl Harbor attacks and served on the submarine USS Jack from 1943 to 1945. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1952. After moving to California, he started Sturdy Products in 1958 and ran the business until 1998 when he retired and moved with his wife to Pismo Beach, California. Basil deeply loved his family and pets, fully enjoyed his days spent running his own business and his almost daily late afternoon swims at Winchell Cove at Millerton Lake. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors and the Submarine Veterans of WWII. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR and as a member of the Diamond Club, was an avid fan of the Fresno State softball team. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Bertha Pratt; his sister, Lee Duke; and his brother, Daniel Pratt. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Pratt; son, Terry Pratt and his wife Toni of Fresno and their daughter Alyssa; daughter, Paula May and her husband Michael of Reno, Nevada and their five children Caleb, Thomas, Kyle, Jason and Tess; son, Daniel Pratt and his wife Julie of Lancaster and their two children Sean and Jamie; two stepchildren, Pegi Morse of Fresno and her two sons Tim and Scott, and Erin Haney of Fresno and his daughter Jordyn; and six great-grand children. Basil's surviving brothers are Bill Pratt and his wife Pauline of Fresno, and John Pratt of Mansfield, Ohio; and sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Tom D'Angelo of Fresno. There will be a Memorial Service at the Fresno Moose Lodge, 110 W. Pontiac Way, (Dakota, east of Chestnut, old Palm Lakes Golf Course), on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. A Reception will immediately follow.
