Laguna Beach, California - Deeply Loved, Greatly Missed.
Beautiful and beloved mother, Donna Scott Coleman, passed away from respiratory failure at the Covington Assisted Living facility in Aliso Viejo, CA, at the age of 101. Donna resided at the Covington for 8 years, upon the death of her beloved partner of 18 years, Jean Perreault, of San Clemente.
Donna moved to Laguna Beach in 1974. She worked at Jewelry by Cini for many years. Donna was twice named the ladies' champion golfer at Ben Brown golf course. An avid bridge player, Donna loved playing the game on Crescent Beach in the afternoons with her neighbors.
Donna was born in Selma, California. Her father, Roy Scott, was a veterinarian and rancher, who died of TB during the depression. Her mother, Pearl Schrack Scott, had to work. Her dear oldest sister, Jean Hightower, helped support the family. Despite meeting hard times after the passing of her father, Donna always had a cheerful attitude and warm smile, which she maintained throughout her life.
During WWII, Donna worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco, commuting by boat to Angel Island. She lived with her dear sister, Marilyn Hart. At a big band dance at the Fairmont Hotel, Donna met and fell in love with Fred Coleman, a dashing young Naval officer from Boston. After 43 years of marriage, Fred passed in 1992. They are survived by their 3 daughters: Shelley Coleman of Belmont, CA, and Monica White and Holly Ottiger of Dana Point, CA.
A devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and strong patriot, Donna was loved by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her exceptional kindness, delightful sense of humor, animated storytelling, and the ever-present twinkle in her eye.
Friends and family are invited to a reception at the Harris Ranch in Coalinga, CA, on October 15, 2025, at 5 p.m. A private interment ceremony will be held at the West Cemetery in Selma, CA. For more information or to send condolences, please email [email protected].
