I first met this wonderful lady when we were part of a Habitat for Humanity global village building project in Taos, NM. Edith volunteered her time doing administrative work while the rest of us worked on the construction site. I was in awe of her energy and regarded her as a very kind lady with an amazing interest in her family's history. Her plan at the time was to create a set of books to gift to her grandchildren that would detail her memories of them and their family history. She shared with me that her entomologist son had discovered a new species of beetle, and it was named after him! Very cool lady, and I regret not accepting her invitation to visit her in Fresno because life got in the way.

I never knew Mrs. Skillin, but I immediately recognized the surname. Below is what I wrote for Mr. Skillin's obituary comments. (26 June 2023)
I'm guessing that this is the Mr. Skillin who was my 8th grade Math teacher at Kings Canyon Junior High School (1967-68). If so, he was a great teacher! One of my fondest memories / stories to share is this:
My seat was in the front row directly in front of his lectern. One day, I was not paying attention, and Mr. S said, "Brian! Pay attention!"
I pulled out my wallet and responded, "How much?" "TO THE DEAN!"
It's all true and is one of my favorite stories of my youth. Mr. Skillin was an amazing man. I miss him.
I hope this story will bring a smile to their children.
I retired after a 41 yr career as a University Professor, which began at Fresno State. I was hired at 24 yrs of age. My wife and I now reside in Florida, having left CA in 2019. To give a reference, I turn 70 this year in November.
I shall always remember Mr. Skillin; he was a kind man who made an impact on my life. Obviously, I never knew his first name; however, after seeing his obit picture, I'm pretty sure it's him.

It is with great sadness that we just read of Edith´s passing some time ago! Boyd had been my
mentor and fellow teacher my first years of teaching! May she rest in peace! Conrad SANBORN
