Florence Andrews Obituary

Florence Louise Andrews
May 7, 1923 - April 26, 2021
Fresno, California - Our dear Mother passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 26, 2021 after a brief illness, with family by her side.
Mom was born on a ferry boat in Fall River, MA May 7, 1923. At age 10 she went to live in a State Welfare home as her father could no longer care for her and her mother had passed away. After graduating high school she lived in a YWCA in New York City and had various jobs. Her favorite job was assembling gun sites for the B-17 bombers during WWII. December 10, 1943, she met Dad (Ted Andrews) "a handsome young sailor with a winning smile" at a USO dance. Mom and Dad were married June 20, 1944 and were together for the next 73 years until Dad passed away. Mom and Dad had 3 daughters, Patricia Black, husband John; Shirley D'Ambrosio, husband Barry; Nancy Fernandez, husband Manny; 2 granddaughters, Tricia Gonzalez, husband Alfredo; Daphne Barnes husband David-deceased; and 3 great-grandchildren, Matthew Gonzalez, Sarah Gonzalez and Leo Barnes.
She had a quick wit and very good sense of humor. Mom loved Christmas and always made sure we had great Christmases even when money was tight. She liked to cook and made Sunday dinners for us and our boyfriends/future husbands for many years. Mom had a passion for bowling and could be found numerous days each week at the bowling alleys in Fresno. She loved to sew and embellished almost every piece of clothing she owned with beautiful machine embroidery designs.
Mom met her special friend Frank while living at Westmont of Fresno. Their companionship helped them both endure the lockdown and isolation due to Covid-19 restrictions. We thank Frank for being there for Mom.
We also thank Westmont of Fresno and St. Agnes Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to Mom during her almost four years of living at Westmont and especially during her final days.
We love you Mom and thank you for being the best Mom anyone could ask for. We know you are now at peace and reunited with Dad.
A private family service will be held to honor and celebrate Mom.
Your Loving Daughters Patty, Shirley and Nancy, and Families
