FOREST YOUNG Obituary

Dr. Forest Vaughan Young, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday evening, May 29, 2018, with his wife of 61 years, Nancy, at his side. Born in Oakland, CA on June 5, 1931, to Fred and Marie Young, he was the younger brother of the late Pat Shafer, and Marion Myer and is survived by his younger sister, Shirley Mizener King. He was raised in Merced, CA, where he met his wife. A graduate of Fresno State College, and The College of Physicians and Surgeons, Forest practiced dentistry for over 40 years beginning in the United States Air Force in El Paso, TX, and continuing in his own practice in Fresno. He was an active member of the Fresno Breakfast Lions Club, and the Porsche Club of America, along with other social organizations. Forest's special interests and hobbies included amateur racecar driving, fishing, playing pinochle, and reading three major newspapers daily. Forest will be remembered for his quick wit, love of music, positive outlook on life, and enduring friendships. Besides his beloved wife Nancy, he is survived by daughter, Kathy Franson and husband Steve; grandsons, Evan and Erik; daughter, Judy Bews and husband Alan; granddaughters, Alison and Emily; daugther, Barbara Giometti and husband Mark; and granddaughters, Stephanie and Katie. Family and friends are welcome to attend A Celebration of Life at the Hotel Piccadilly on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions in his memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research; or your favorite charity. For more information, visit The Chapel of Light website http://www.chapelofthelight.com/ .

I second what others have written. I had been terrified of dentists prior to becoming his patient when he first started his practice with Dr. Keran ?. I was a very young teen. I a loved his wit and intelligence. I always learned something when I had an appointment. It was so frustrating to have a mouth full of dental instruments when I wanted to respond to his conversation. He was very special. Condolences to his family.

I was Forest's patient from day one of his practice until the day he retired. I have a mouthful of really good memories, and lots of excellent work! But most of all I remember all the many years and good times we all had with our good buddies in the San Joaquin Region of the Porsche Club of America. So many good times, way too many to detail here. On several occasions Forest was my navigator on a few very special sports car rallys. The two of us racing through the night, in the middle of nowhere, freezing cold, bundled in our heavy car coats, with the top down, enduring the uncomfortableness but yet extreme sportiness of my glorious 1955 Porsche Super Speedster. Oh, the FUN! I will never forget Forest and Nancy.

Dr. Young was my dentist when I was a teenager and my Mother Jennie Kight also worked for him. He was the only dentist I really ever trusted to touch my mouth. He always made life fun.
