I'm 86 now and still remember Fred when I worked at Salyer Land Company in 1962-1966. When I quit to go to the big city lights, he came to my house and tried to keep me. Fond memeory.

I was a college intern at Salyer American in the summer of 1984. Fred reminded me of WWII veterans who "required" a look in the eye and firm handshake. As interns, Fred enjoyed visiting with us and getting to know us. That personal interest was genuine and admirable. Truly a great man.

Fred was the consummate farmer, pilot, patriot, and gentleman. We were so grateful for his friendship - a friendship that started with our family's move to Corcoran in the late 1940's. Naomi and Marian quickly became life-long best friends.
As our families grew, the moms and kids would enjoy wonderful summer vacations at Pismo Beach and Bass Lake with the dads joining them on occasional weekends, as the crops would allow. Peter is grateful for Fred offering him his first job in the barley fields as a high school student during the summer of 1965 11 hours per day, 6 days a week, $1 an hour. Fred, along with Peter's dad (Big Pete), taught the value of hard work and the self-respect that came with it.
We offer condolences to our childhood friends, Christy, Linda and Scott (and their families), and honor our memories of both Fred and Marian.

It has been 50 years since I left Salyer Land Company's office employment and my brief times with Fred still stick with me. He liked me charting his flight plans. His Cotton Under the Stars parties were great.
A good man.
