Howard Joseph Salyer, age 88, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the SOMC Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 27, 1937, in Minford, he was the only child of the late Reverend Hershel Salyer and Marie Jordan Salyer.
A dedicated professional, Howard retired as an electrician from Fluor Daniel in Circleville and attended the Rubyville Community Church. He was also an avid Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Red’s Fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Etta Lou (Mason) Salyer, along with two daughters, Rhonda (Roger) Compton and Jayne Ann Lemley. His legacy continues through his three grandchildren, Kyle (Chelsea) Compton, Jared (Bekah) Compton, and Anthony Lemley, as well as five great-grandchildren, Maelynn, Kylie, Reed, Braden, and Braxton.
In accordance with Howard's wishes, funeral services were held privately for the family, with Pastor Calvin Ray Evans and Pastor Brian Baer officiating. He was laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville.
