Freda Bates Obituary

FREDA JUNE BATES Freda, a Madera Resident for 43 years, passed away April 24, 2003, with her family by her side. She was born to Elmer and Nina Ball in Ione, OR, June 23, 1924. She was a Corporal in the U.S. Marines, as well as as homemaker and a loving wife of 57 years to Mr. Edward Bates. She and Edward met while in the military during WWII 1945. They made their life and family in Madera County. She is survived by her husband Edward Bryant Bates; her son, Robert Bryant Bates and his wife Carolyn Mudge Bates of Madera; her brother, Leon Jay Ball of Ione, OR. She will be missed by her grandson, Jeremy Michael Bates and her two great-grandchildren, Ty Bryant Bates and Grant Michael Bates. She is preceded in death by her brother, Jack Ball. Freda was a life member of the Madera County Sheriffs rescue posse, past President of the Madera Emblems Club (Elks), Member of the Daughter's American Revolution, and the Colonial Dames. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 92 of Madera, Member of the Rebekha Lodge of Madera (Odd Fellows), and a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Oakhurst. She was a woman who believed of being involved in her community as well as her country. A Visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2003, at the Smith Manor Grace Chapel in Madera, CA. from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00. Graveside Service will be held at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Gustine, CA, on Monday, May 5, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. with full military honors. Remembrances can be made in Freda's memory to the Madera County Sheriff's Rescue Posse, 14143 Rd 28 Madera, CA 93638. All arrangements are under the direction of Smith Manor Grace Chapel, 801 E.
