George Rodgers Obituary

GEORGE DONALD RODGERS 1921 - 2008 George was born in Clovis, Ca., on January 7, to John and Jean Rodgers. He passed away in San Luis Obispo on September 9, at age 87. George served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1946, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. In 1950, he bought the Rodgers Corner Bar and Café, in San Francisco. He later moved to Fresno, and in 1957, bought and operated the Hide-A-Way Tavern for 23 years. He retired to Morro Bay in 1980. He enjoyed golf, reading, gardening, traveling and loved to dance! He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, and enjoyed friends and activities. Preceding him in death are his parents, John and Jean; stepmother, Dora; brothers, Jack, Elmer and Jim; first wife, Betty Rodgers; daughter, Robin Gatz; and second wife, Grace Rodgers. He is survived by Angela Rodgers, his wife of 17 years; daughter, Jeanne Hurst and her husband Ron; son, Ron Rodgers and his wife Ruth; son-in-law, Jerry Gatz; stepdaughter, Marlowe Franklin and her husband Keith; stepdaughter, Dawn Martinez; stepson, Dan Thornton; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, Ca., on Friday, October 17, 2008.
