GWIN HANSEN Obituary

Gwin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the age of 75. Gwin was born in Bennettsville, SC to Oscar Wilson and Blanche Cawthon Wilson. She was an extraordinary generous and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend to many. Her Southern roots, having been raised through her graduation in 1953 from East High School in Memphis, Tn., bestowed in her the beauty of 'Southern Hospitality', gathering friends in her home or wherever she went. She was proud to be a Southern Belle and believed in the pleasantries of life and the celebration of family and holidays. Upon arriving in Fresno in 1953, she attended Fresno City College and Fresno State College, and worked for many years at the Fresno Probation Office. She later worked as a secretary at Wawona Middle, Hoover High, and Lawless Elementary Schools until she retired in 1997. She was known for her giving, selfless attitude which was always on display through her work with LARCS and many charitable events. From its inception, Gwin was a proud and supportive member of New Covenant Community Church. She had a strong faith that gave her amazing strength as she faced her physical ailments. Her strength, motivation, and determination will continue to serve as inspiration for her friends and family. Gwin was a lover of the outdoors and spent as much time as she could, enjoying the ranch she lived on. She could often be found working in her garden, riding horses, walking the dogs or sipping ice tea with friends in her gazebo. She was also an avid golfer, as a member of San Joaquin Country Club, and a lovely skier in her day. Gwin loved to do for others and spent all of her time taking care of her family, friends, and helping those in time of need. She loved to travel and was happy sharing stories of her wonderful memories of Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and the California Coast that she loved so much. Her laughter was contagious and her energy, and zest for life inspired all those who met her. She is survived by her husband, Richard Hansen; sons, Eric Stanfield and his wife Garcia and five year old son Luc of Santa Cruz, and Brent Hansen and his wife Hillori and three year old daughter Sienna of Fresno; and brothers, Hunter Wilson of Balboa Island, Ca. and Yerger Wilson of Hobe Sound, Fl., all of whom will miss her dearly. A Service to celebrate her wonderful life will be on Monday, April 4, 2011. We ask that all flowers and charitable donations on behalf of Gwin Hansen be sent to New Covenant Community Church.
