Jack Fiorentino Obituary

JACK MICHAEL FIORENTINO

Jack lived a productive and noteworthy 72 years. He was born on February 14, 1932, to Mauro and Rosa Fiorentino and died on Tuesday, September 14, 2004. He attended St. Alphonsus School through eighth grade and went to Edison for grades 9 thru 11 where he played football and developed many lifelong friendships. He continued to play football at Fresno High School, where he graduated, and Fresno City College. He played at Stanford University before transferring to and graduating from University of Utah. He started working for Borelli Perfection Macaroni Company as a salesman and continued to work as a salesman for forty years. He loved his job and the opportunity he had, not just to sell his wares, but to socialize and make friends. Jack was also actively involved in politics and loved to be known as "the underdog" who tried to save the taxpayers money. He was part of the Howard Jarvis committee to pass Proposition 13 and was responsible for holding school board members accountable in Fresno Unified School District. While be was unsuccessful in his run for school board, he did change the size of the school board from five to seven members. He was best known as chairman of the San Joaquin Valley Taxpayers Association. He and President John Santoya managed to pass a measure preventing the installation of water meters in the City of Fresno. He is survived by his brothers Michael, Ben, Frank, Tony; and sisters, Rosa DeLara and Mary Allard. His family was the most important thing in his life. He was married for 37 years to Carol and had three children, Janet, Karen Christensen, and Christy. Visitation will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel on Thursday September 16, 2004, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Friday, September 17, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. Followed by Interment at Belmont Memorial Park.
