James Scroggin Obituary

Jim Scroggin was born to Charles and Betty Scroggin in Fresno, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Addams Elementary and Jr. High, Fresno High, Fresno City, and Fresno State. Jim's career began as a teacher and ended as an administrator. He retired in 2001 after 31 years in education. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, rising through the chairs to State Deputy (twice) to being elected to the Supreme Board of Directors, which allowed him the opportunity to travel. Jim was also an avid Bulldog fan, Foundation member, and Hoops Club member. He attended as many games as possible in football, men's and women's basketball, softball, baseball, and an occasional volleyball game and wrestling match. Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lisa, his daughter Andrea Pezoldt (Brad), son Ray, grandchildren Jenna and Max Pezoldt, sister Sandy Berenbaum, and brother David Scroggin. The family would be grateful for donations to be sent to Hinds Hospice at 2490 W. Shaw Ave. Fresno, CA 93711 or the charity of your choice, in Jim's name. Due to the Covid restrictions, mass at Holy Spirit Church is limited and graveside services are private.

Dear Lisa,
We are so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was such a great human being and friend, a rare combination. His memory will always stay with me. Jim took the time through the years to stay in touch and shared news of our high school friends and your family. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. He was a blessing. I hope you and your children are well. My husband, Chris and I send you love.

My condolences to Mr Scroggins family. Today, my family and I were watching VH1 videos from where we were little. My mom Rosie/Rosalba Gonzalez worked at Homan Elementary and recorded a lot. Mr Scroggins was vice Principal and Mrs Casper was our Principal. I was in Mrs Pittons kindergarten class. My parents go to lady of victory and would see him. My mom got sick and hadn´t made it to church in a couple years. She asked about Mr Scroggins so I searched online and came across his obituary. Our family was very saddened. I know it´s been years but I wanted to let family and friends know that Mr Scroggins was an amazing person!!! Lots of prayers.

Goodbye my friend and mentor. I had the honor of knowing Jim and working beside him in the Knights of Columbus. When I joined our council 30+ years ago, Jim was there to mentor and guide me and always encouraged me to be involved and take part. My brother John and I thought the world of Jim and were very proud when he went on to State Deputy (twice) and later Vice Supreme Master. I will always remember his smile, his devotion to his faith and his family, his dedication to the Knights and the way his eyes twinkled as he came up to shake hands. To Lisa and your family, thank you for sharing him with us. My sincere condolences. May God comfort and bless you always. -Michael and Catherine Golden

I got the honor of working with Jim back at Homan Elementary when I was new teacher. My fondest memories were Marvin Howard and Jim as the dynamic duo making me laugh on a daily basis while getting their jobs done at the highest level. He was a mentor and friend. I know my mom and dad had a friendship with Jim outside of school. Many times my dad would play golf with Jim at Fig Garden enjoying their retirements. Also Jim and Lisa coming to my house after I gave birth to visit my daughter. He was a great man and will be dearly missed.

Leslie and I were honored to have served with and for Jim Scroggin with ONLY one (s) in his many positions in the 3rd Degree as well as his position as Vice Supreme Master. We were always remembered and appreciated. We enjoyed visiting with Jim and Lady Lisa as they traveled around the State while camping. Jim was a most respected person whom I never heard a negative word about. He will always be remembered by the examples he left us. Yes I did keep up with Jim as he did his daily mileage and we discussed the future of the Knights. Jim and Lady Lisa are often in our thoughts and always in our prayers. God Bless, Lady Leslie and Skip

I was just communicating with some of my old colleagues from when we all taught at Homan Elementary when Jim was our vice-principal. He was a very kind, "low-key" administrator we all appreciated, including the school's families. The photo here captures the "twinkle in his eye" that was always there! Sorry for your family's loss.

Please accept my condolences for your recent loss.
As a friend and classmate of his brother David, I will always remember James’ humor, wit and kind attitude to a neighborhood kid.
