Dear Melissa, Trevor,Sarah and family--Words cannot express our heavy hearts at the passing of John. What a great guy who married the love of his life--Melissa.
I remember our E V Free days, how Big John would hang around Melissa's desk just to bask in her beauty and charm. In those days I remember him sporting t-shirt, camouflage pants, boots and often a bandanna. I am glad to learn today that he upgraded to a cowboy hat :-)
John was a skit then....glad to hear today that his sense of humor has been enjoyed by so many through the years. The funeral was an amazing testimony of his impact in Fresno. He will be missed!!
Our sympathy and prayers are with you. Chris and Laura (Huth) Gothard

Melissa is my Step Sister, She John and the kids have spent every Thanksgiving with us for MANY years. Last year John found out that I found "What does the Fox say?" THE most annoying song on earth so he decided to follow me around the entire day singing it and dancing until all I could do was laugh and join him. I will miss him and the Joy he has brought to every Thanksgiving we have shared for so many years. Love and Light to Melissa, Trevor and Miss Sarah <3

Melissa - I am so sorry to hear about John's death. You, Trevor and Sarah are in my prayers. I am planning a trip to Fresno in Sep and I will get in touch with you. I lost Tim 8 months ago, so perhaps we can help each other travel this journey together. Please know you are loved by many, but most importantly by our sweet Lord and Savior Jesus. You are not alone.

I have no words for the loss of John. He lit up any room or event he attended. My family and I have very fond memories to share and hope they can bring a smile to all who love John.
When my Husband Diego and I got Married John and Melissa were so very supportive and wanted to help. John went as far as making all the rice. Our Children have been friends and grew together.
My Mom and Dad also loved John and Melissa as a real estate agent my parents took John to see a house. John ended up setting off the burgler alarm. Trevor and Sarah ran for the car!! John said well we may as well look!!
I also have a memory of Russell and Trevor's 6th grade field trip I happened to be 7 months pregnant john drove the van I sat in the front with two other fathers of 6th graders in the back. He drove so fast I told him I was going to give birth in the car I was so scared.
The Dads in the back protested my comment. John said I'm a trained professional!
There so many more happy and wonderful memories..
I was trying to get John and Melissa to commit to a visit to Texas for football season knowing how much John would enjoy it here.
We will all miss Johns warmth, his witty sense of humor he was an amazing friend! Devoted and loving father and husband. I hope he rests I. Peace with a watchful eye on all of us smiling and laughing at us.

I didn't know John but he sounded like and incredible man and a great police officer, father, son and dad. I pray for your family in your time of need. Rest assured that he is with our Lord and Savior. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the lose of my grandson Sullivan he was taken from us at an early age only two, very unexpectedly. Our family knows your heartbreak. May God be with you all.

I have been saddened to learn that my former co-worker John D. Herring, friend and brother has been called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To me he was an outstanding example of "Fresno's Finest".always ready to help those in need.
As I read his obituary a verse from God's Word The Bible came to mind: ..."know ye not that there is a prince and A GREAT MAN fallen this day..." 2 Samuel 3:38. To God, John was A GREAT MAN here on earth, and now continues to be a GREAT MAN in His presence.
To his dear wife, children, mother and father, please know that you all have been prayed for by my family here in Tehuacan, Puebla Mexico.
