JOHN MOORE November 24, 1922 - June 29, 2005
John Moore passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the age of 82, after a short illness. John worked in construction over 50 years, first as a co-owner of Remco Construction of Avenal, CA, then as Construction Superintendent for Bank Building Corp of St. Louis. He also worked as project manager for Spaulding, Slye and Sammis Corp in Washington, D.C. John loved his work and enjoyed seeing each project develop. He was a proud Rotarian for more than 50 years. John earned his pilot's license and enjoyed owning and flying a plane for many years. After retirement in 1990, he joined the San Joaquin Fine Woodworkers and made many toys for the annual Christmas toy drives. He enjoyed making wooden pens on his lathe and was eager to show over 100 people how to make them as well. He also made beautiful clocks. John was an active volunteer in repairing and painting many projects at the Community Presbyterian Church in Avenal, CA, and the First Presbyterian Church of Visalia. He was always happy to help family and friends as well, whether it was pouring concrete, hanging doors, or painting. It did not matter how he was needed, he would be there. John is survived by his wife Mildred; son John and his wife Chris of Bakersfield; son Ray and his wife Liz of Seattle; son Dan and his wife Sally of Bellingham; son Stephen and his wife of Livermore; 13 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also mourned by stepchildren, Larry Olsen and his wife Cheryl, Jennifer Yau and her husband Paul, Christopher Olsen and his wife Joan, and Peter Olsen; and an additional seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Albert of LaPalma, CA; and many nieces and nephews. John was a kind and proud man. He never met a stranger. His family was very special to him, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 215 North Locust, Visalia on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Memorial Fund at First Presbyterian Church, Visalia or online at www.smithfamilychapel.com.
