Not sure what to say?

My condolences to Joe's family. I met Joe shortly after I started working at Fresno State and always found him to be a very friendly person. After he retired I missed seeing him in the hall and saying hello to him. I thought about him often and thought many times to ask Paula to say hello to him for me. I will regret not having asked her to say hello for me. I will always remember him as he looks in the picture. My prayers are with Paula and their family. Good-bye Joe, rest in peace.

Yesterday I called Joe to wish a Merry Christmas to he and Paula when I was deeply saddened by the news of the loss.Joe would always help me if I had a question about our family origins as he was the oldest of our generation. I am so glad my wife Sandie and I had the chance to meet his lovely wife Paula and his son Ian during a trip to the left coast.I am surely going to miss our East coast badgering banter that we have shared since being kids in the 50's at pa's cottage in Billerica Mass. Rest in peace cousin I'll miss you......Joe&Sandie Heuston

I graduated with Joe from Northeastern University in 1965 and witnessed first hand his athletic abilities especially in football and true scholarship in and love of history as we shared the same majors and professors for five years. We often teased each other about our humble beginnings (he from Charlestown and I from Cambridge) and the improbability of our success as perceived by others. Most of all I appreciated his hearty laugh and authentic friendship through the years. We met and have spoken a few times since graduation. To be honest just today I thought about Joe and dialed to no avail the last number I had for him to reach out and say hi and anticipate our attendance at our pending 50th college graduation anniversary, While attempting to get more contemporary information about his whereabouts I found his recent obituary.

God Bless the family and pease accept my profound sorrow for your loss and sincere condolences and prayers. Dr. Allen R. Sullivan - Emeritus Assistant Superintendent Office of Student Development & Advocacy Services- Dallas Independent School District.

I remember "Sam" very well. He was an outstanding football player for Charlestown High School, the Charlestown "Townies"' and Northeastern University, but above all, he was a great guy. I was sorry to learn of his passing.

My condolences to the entire family. Joe was someone I came to know and admire during my first few years working at Fresno State. It was obvious that Joe looked out for students and cared about his employees. He will be remembered fondly, and he and all of his family will be in my prayers.

My sincerest condolences. I knew Joe from my Fresno State days. I did not know him well, however, as we worked in different areas of the administration, but he always struck me as a kind and considerate professional who was dedicated to providing the best service to students.
