LAURIE McFEETERS Obituary

Laurie Anne Hills McFeeters passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. She was born on June 29, 1934, to Harry Hills, a Certified Public Accountant, and Anne Laurie Simpson, whose parents donated property for the Academy Cemetery. Laurie graduated from Fresno High School, attended University of California, Berkley, and received her teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. She married John Donald McFeeters during his last year of law school at UC Berkley. John and Laurie returned to Fresno to raise three children. Laurie opened one of the first pre-schools in Fresno and was proud to teach young children to read. Laurie had a zest for life, a robust laugh and was not shy with her opinions. She cherished cook books, multiple sets of china, and time spent with family and friends. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; and her loving husband. Laurie is survived by her three children, Will McFeeters, Anne Branch, and Mary Wingett; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth McFeeters, Katherine McFeeters, Patrick Branch, Spenser Branch, John Wingett and Jason Wingett. The family thanks everyone for their love and support. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.

We have many loving memories from our childhood growing up with our next door neighbors, the McFeeters family. Our thoughts and prayers from the Bopp family on Dayton Avenue.

Laurie was cherished and loved by our entire family. Yes, her robust laugh is probably what I'll miss and remember most. Or maybe her enthusiasm for early childhood learning. Or maybe her enormous loyalty to her friends. I'll always have a Laurie shaped hole in my heart. May the peace of God be with each of Laurie's family members.
