Phyllis Sullivan

Fresno, California - Phyllis was born on Oct. 13, 1929 to Herman Carlock Tieman and Myrtle Stover Tieman in Danville, IL and passed away in Fresno, CA on 11/13/2020.
After graduation in 1947 from Paxton Community High School in Paxton, IL, Phyllis attended St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Rockford, IL. She graduated in 1950 and worked as a registered nurse at Paxton Community Hospital, and later at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. In 1951 she traveled with 3 of her friends to Fresno, CA where she took a nursing position at Fresno County General Hospital. She met Ronal Leon Sullivan at a local dance. They were married on June 6, 1952. Son Larry was born in 1954 and daughter Pamela in 1956.
Phyllis continued to work at Valley Medical Center (formerly Fresno County General Hospital) until her retirement in 1986 as Associate Director of Nursing. She and Leon enjoyed many hobbies together such as travel, lawn bowling, gardening and playing cards, as well as their involvement in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5057. Leon passed away in March 2009, and in January 2017 Phyllis moved to the Paintbrush Assisted Living Center where she made many new friends. She continued her involvement in the VFW Auxiliary and pinochle club, enjoyed local theater and attending church services at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Easton.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Dean and by husband Leon. She is survived by her son Larry (Nancy), and daughter Pamela (Dennis), stepdaughter Patricia, 5 grandchildren, 2 stepgrandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 4 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Due to pandemic guidelines a private service was held on November 24, 2020 at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
