My condolences to the family. In 1965 on North Angus there was a new neighborhood filled with children. The Sheppard family was just four doors away. I remember Dick having the most unique job compared to all the other dads on the block. It is wonderful to see how successful he was. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I met Dick in 1968 when he hired me at KMJ radio during my last year at Fresno State. We traveled up and down the State broadcasting football and basketball games for FSC and Fresno City College, I was the remote engineer. Dick had a large station wagon we rode in thru the crazy fog nights during football season. We went our separate ways, later we both came home and got back together in Sanger. This time, after forty plus years, I got to drive, as we traveled covering the Sanger High Apaches. He was a friend and a mentor.
I went on to become a film editor at Warner Bros. and Disney Studios, and the time I spent with a gentleman and professional like Dick, served me well in my career in Hollywood.
I’m sure he went straight to heaven, he earned it, deserved it, and is totally enjoying it with his camera and vodka by his side.
Rest in peace my friend,
Mike

Dick was a friend, a competitor, methodical and detailed as one can get, and one great guy. Worked with him, worked as a competitor, and also held him in high esteem. The Sanger School District should name the PA/Broadcast booth at Apache Stadium in his honor as his dedication and constant praise for the School will never be matched.

Drinking coffee, thinking over some of our conversations. With respect and honor I will always cherish the time well spent. Peace & Comfort.

In high school, Dick was known as "The Voice." He certainly provided that voice in his broadcasting career, his strong involvement in many organizations to help others and his dedication to his work as the Editor of the Sanger Herald newspaper. He was a good man and a better friend. Jim Lindsay - Dinuba Class of 1956.
