Sara Conboy Obituary

Sara Button Conboy

December 24, 1957 - April 16, 2025

Fresno, California - Sara Button Conboy passed away on April 16, 2025, in Fresno at age 67 after a brief battle with cancer.

Born at Fresno's old St. Agnes Hospital on December 24, 1957, Sara grew up in Old Fig Garden and attended Fresno State Lab School, Ahwahnee Middle School, and Hoover High School before graduating from California State University, Fresno with a French major and Russian minor. Sara ventured on world travels before attending Boston University for graduate classes in Art History. It was in Boston that Sara met her husband Tim, and after a time, they returned to California's Silicon Valley and then to Fresno, where they raised their sons Benjamin and Thomas. She was involved with the Malloch Elementary School PTA and was a passionate sports mom.

Sara held positions as an Executive Administrative Assistant at several Silicon Valley firms and later worked for Fresno Unified School District as a substitute office assistant and at Gottschalks Department Store as a vault manager. Sara was by her husband Tim's side for many Rotary events and projects. With a deep understanding of people and witty and attentive in conversation, Sara possessed a wonderful sense of humor and an easy willingness for laughter. A devoted mother and spouse, Sara held deep pride in creating a sense of home for her family. Her life was marked by countless profound, long-time friendships. Sara cherished her amazing medical team, some of whom had given her care for many years.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Alan Dewitt Button and Patricia Gilmour Button, and uncle Steve Button. She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Timothy D. Conboy; sons Benjamin and Thomas; stepsons Matthew (Karen) and Daniel (Natasha); and devoted dog Leo. Other surviving family members include brother Adam Button and sister Jennifer Button; step-grandchildren Jackie, Gabriel, and Daniel; nieces and nephews Stephanie, Addison, Ava, Alex and Asher; Aunt Carrie Ketchum; and cousins Dana, Emily, and Steve; brothers-in-law Fran (Joanne) Conboy and Ron Conboy, and sister-in-law Barbara Daigle.

Sara's ashes will be spread at her beloved Hood River, Oregon. A celebration of life will be held in August, date and location TBD. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Fresno Art Museum, San Joaquin River Parkway, or Shinzen Friendship Garden.

Sara was a very close friend of mine for a long time. We met in college while in our 20s and became friends immediately. She was incredibly bright, engaging and informed, had a wonderful sense of humor and a generous, thoughtful heart. Her friendship was unconditional. She was the kind of friend you could count on for anything at any time. Sara was active in and supportive of so many Fresno groups and institutions. She took advantage of the best that Fresno has to offer and will be sorely missed in the community. Sara had many circles of friends, stemming from various facets of her life. I think everyone felt like they were Sara's best friend because she was an empathic and supportive listener. I am privileged to have known Sara and to have had her as such a dear friend. Her loss leaves me with a devastating void. It is with peace and gratitude that I offer my love and sympathy to her husband Tim and their sons Benjamin and Thomas.

We are devastated by the loss of our good friend Sara. I met Sara when Joe and I were members of Sunrise Rotary and one Christmas party, I met Sara and we became INSTANT friends, which has been close to a decade now.
Sara is easy to love and her authentic interest in connection is one that will impact me for the rest of my life. Our deepest condolence to Tim, Thomas, Ben and rest of her immediate family.
