My name is John Schlesselman and I was in Mrs. Bishops 2nd grade class at Great Western School in Reedley during the 1980/1981 school year. I'm 43 now. One memory that sticks out in my mind involves the first time I really remember getting into trouble because of my mouth. Setting: Mrs. Bishop was getting a movie ready for us to watch on the reel to reel projector. The room was dark. The screen in the front of the room was bright white from the light of the projector. However, all I saw was a stage to perform. As she was struggling in the back, I stood up in the "spotlight", turned to face my audience and said "are we gonna watch this movie or not?!"
Needless to say, the projector was fixed, and the movie about Bears began to play. I, however, missed the entire thing because I had a date with the flagpole outside for the next 40 minutes.
I'm pleased to say that the lesson was learned and the report card, that I STILL have today, said that I'd come a long way that year and Mrs. Bishop was excited to see where life took me.
I'm happy to say that I'm employed by Immanuel Schools in Reedley working with kids in the music department. All thanks goes to the teachers in my formative years who helped keep me on the right path to success...even in the 2nd grade.
