For The Family of Tony Souza Sr.
I was very sorry to hear of my Godfather's passing, he meant a lot to me.
As a young child he was always a big part of the family. We would have Sunday afternoon gatherings at my Grandparents house in Riverdale, and all the Aunts and Uncles would show up with their families just to visit.
As a young girl I would help my Godmother Erma do some ironing. When it came to Padrinho's shirts, I could never be believe how long his arms were. The sleeves must have laid from one end of the ironing board to the other. He was so tall and I loved to look up at him. I thought he was a giant of some sort, as the rest of us were all so short.
Though out my life I have remained a part of his and Madrinha's. I would stop by and visit. Padrinho was a very generous man. You never went home without a wonderful meal cooked by Madrinha and Margaret or a large zip lock bag that was produced and put together by Padrinho with the best walnuts ever.
I will miss that very much. I always told my children that they were very special nuts. Without them I could not make their cookies. Then came the grand kids and they would listen to my story and slowly eat their cookie with interest. The adult children loved it. They little ones ate slow, so the bigger ones got more.
As time went by I found out Padrinho liked Peanut Brittle. So I stopped at See's Candy in Fresno and would bring him a box. His eyes would light up when he saw them, and no doubt about it, they were his.
Just remember this, he is not gone... for he left a bit of him in our hearts. He will always be with us.
My love to you all,
Your Godchild, Cousin, and Friend.
