Virginia Colver Obituary

VIRGINIA COLVER "Ginny"

Virginia Colver passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at the age of 82, in Fresno, CA, while on a walk to the Henry Madden Library. She was born in 1923 in Los Angeles, CA where she spent her early years. Ginny attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she received a B.A. Degree in bacteriology in 1948, and also met her husband, Dr. A. Wayne Colver. They were married in 1949. She worked as a bacteriologist and laboratory technician in public health and medical research laboratories in Los Angeles, Cambridge, and Portland, OR. Ginny did cancer research at Harvard Medical Center while Wayne was working on his PhD in Philosophy there. Their two sons, Clint and Chris were born in Cambridge, MA. The family settled in Fresno in 1957, when Wayne accepted a position as a philosophy professor at California State University, Fresno where he taught until his death in 1987. In Fresno, Ginny was active for many years in a wide variety of community organizations. She was president of the League of Women Voters from 1960-1961, CSUF Faculty Wives, on the board of the Fresno County Library, and on the board of the Henry Madden Library. Over the years, Ginny was also active in the Fresno Art Center, Fig Tree Gallery, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and served on the Fresno Planning Commission. She was also a generous donor to art, educational, political and health organizations. Ginny is survived by her sons, Clint and Chris Colver; and her grandchildren, Katherine, Monica and Trever. Services will be private. Memorial contributions in Ginny's name may be made to the Henry Madden Library at CSUF, or to the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library in Los Angeles.
